A Tribute to Hope, my Miniature Dachshund

With the recent passing of my always healthy, young mother dog, Hope, I have made the decision to no longer breed the miniature Dachshunds.  This page is a tribute to my precious girl, Hope, and all the beautiful puppies that she produced  bringing happiness to a number of families.  I will love you forever, my dear friend.  I will always miss you.  I wrote the following right after Hope and passed away and leave it here as a tribute to what a brave, loving mother she was:I am devestated to post that my beautiful momma Dachshund passed away on June 22, 2009 due to complications from a sudden and accute case of pacreatitis that was complicated by her pregnancy and the enormity of the litter that she was carrying.  Most Miniature Dachshunds of 2-4 pups in their litter.  Hope gave birth naturally, after being induced by the vet because of her precarious condition, to five puppies. Three of these were born breech.  She then had an additional two puppies still in her womb that were not far enough down the birth canal and had to be taken by ceserian section.  After enduring four and half long hours of labor and giving birth to seven healthy pups, Hope could not hold on any longer and died on the operating table.  I am currently grieving so deeply that I can’t find words the right words to express how much she means to me and how devestated I am at her passing.  In my care, she has left these seven pups, six of which are males and one female.  I feed them every two hours by hand and so far they are doing well.  Only time will tell if they will survive, but I am cautiously optomistic.  Hope was a determined little momma to give life to these babies before her passing.  I believe they have her determination and will survive.  We could use your thoughts and prayers during this time.  In time, when I am able to see through the tears, I will make a memorial page to my brindle beauty, Hope.  Previously I had state the following about future litters: “This will be Hope’s last litter and I will no longer be breeding Dachshunds.  Hunter and Hope my breeding pair will be retired and enjoy the rest of their lives on the farm just doing all the things that dogs love to do!”  I am filled with sadness that she is not here.  Her spririt lives on in the lives of the puppies who bring joy and happiness to those families who love them so much.

  1. Such beautiful beloved Dachshunds! This is how all puppies should be raised! The dogs are stellar as is the environment, good job!

  2. Love your brindle doxie! When will you breed her again?

    • Thank you, Debi. She is a sweetheart and we love her very much. I plan to skip her next heat, so it will be at least a year before I breed her again.
